Bio

The Italy-based photographer Daria Troitskaia was born in Saint Petersburg and educated in Vienna. Her passion for art was an undeniable source of inspiration from the start. Daria worked as an art director for a web design company before starting her photographic career.

After taking courses in art and photography, including Sotheby's "Art as a Global Business," she moved to Malta and later to Milan, Italy. It became a turning point that transformed Daria’s passion for photography into a vocation. 

Her artistic journey is defined by four integral components — continuous movement, a sense of adventure, self-challenges, and a unique perspective.

Continuous movement. As Daria travels, she captures details, habits, and emotions others don't notice. Her works in the genre of street photography are passionate snippets of private life captured on film or made with her digital Leica camera. Daria's photographs are never static. They always retain a sense of movement and vitality, just like her life. Every picture has a story to tell. There are many such stories in Daria's photography book Maltese Exposures (2020).

A spirit of movement also permeates Daria’s fashion photography. Fashion is a world of daring, contradictory, vibrant changes. It is constantly seeking new ideas and reinventing itself. It doesn't matter if it's a street-style shoot at Milan Fashion Week or a sophisticated advertisement or image shoot. A master at capturing changes, Daria never fails to do so.

 A sense of adventure. Daria’s passion for adventure drives her to create aerial shots from helicopters. Daria captures pristine places, rising above the hustle and bustle of daily life — the majestic peaks of the Swiss Alps, the rugged coastline of Malta, the endless Italian Riviera, and the “yachts battle” in the Barcolana Regatta. On land, she captures Frecce Tricolori team showdowns and legendary races like the Gran Prix Nuvolari and Mille Miglia. The extensive collection of film and digital cameras Daria owns helps her utilize the best photography techniques for each project.

Self-challenges. Finding new opportunities for self-expression, Daria challenges herself to participate in extreme activities, not just capture them through lenses. Racing is something she is passionate about as a car and speed enthusiast. As a thrill-seeking child, she loved karting, racing, and watching Formula One rounds. Later, Daria participated in Coppa Milano-Sanremo and Targa Florio, one of the world's oldest and most famous car races.

Unique perspective. Daria is not afraid of finding new means of conveying her unique perspective. Collaborating with a collector Masha Goncharova, she created the Wunderkammer project, driven by a passion for collecting antiques and years of collecting rare interior pieces. This collaborative project results from a unique artistic rethinking of still life in the context of cultural codes. The photographs evoke the images that pop into our minds when we hear about different countries. The objects from Masha Goncharova's collection become a mosaic, which Daria assembles in a new way, experimenting with light, color, and textures while retaining the form of a Baroque still life. The photographer creates new, non-standard associative series using collectible objects to engage viewers and alter their perceptions.

Currently, Daria Troitskaia is working on a new photography book Italy from the Air, which will be published soon. The artist also participates in exhibitions worldwide and works on new projects that will show again that “Impossible is just an opinion.”  The best is yet to come!
